Atlantic Biological Corridor (GEF)

Development Objective

The objective of the project is to promote the integrity of a biological corridor along the Atlantic slope of Nicaragua by ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources in this region. The GEF project is closely associated with the now closed Nicaragua Rural Municipalities Project which, inter alia, addressed some of the root causes of biodiversity loss in the Atlantic. Most notably, these include institutional strengthening and better natural resource management in the Pacific and at the agricultural frontier. The project falls under the Biodiversity focal area of the GEF and the Operational Programs #2 and 3 (Coastal, Marine, and Freshwater Ecosystems & Forest Ecosystems).
