Lukovo Pole Water Regulation and Renewable Energy Project
Development Objective
The objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the national and regional power systems.The project will address Macedonia's growing imbalance between electricity production and demand through construction of an upstreams reservoir for three existing hydropower plants in the Mavrovo cascade. This will allow for the additional production of around 160 GWh of electricity per year from environmentall friendly hydropower leading to reduced GHG emissions in the national and regional power systems.The project will include the construction of an 85 m rockfill dam and will be a category A in terms of the Bank's environmental safeguards classification.
