Vietnam's Mekong Delta has been hailed as a biological treasure and is home to one of the most abundant biodiversity systems on Earth but its ecosystems are experiencing dramatic degradation on many fronts. For farmers and communities whose livelihoods depend on the health of these rich natural resources, adaptation will be the key to survival.
The World Bank and the State Bank of Vietnam today signed agreements for loans and credits worth $560 million for two projects to support urban development, climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods in the Mekong Delta.
The objective of the project is to enhance tools for climate-smart planning, and improve climate resilience of land and water management practices in selected provinces of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved $310 million to help Vietnam build climate resilience and ensure sustainable livelihoods of 1.2 million people living in nine Mekong Delta provinces.
