Abstract*

The Belgian Government has asked for a loan to help finance the cost of the modernization of the Charleroi-Clabecq canal. This project includes: widening parts of the present canal; and excavating a new course to avoid numerous curves which impede navigation including a tunnel one kilometer long which will be replaced by a deeply excavated open canal.
