Development Objective

The overall objective is to put in place measures to assure the conservation of the Honduran section of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor in core areas in t he long term. This overall objective is to be achieved by focussing on the following specific goals:- Sufficient institutional capacity achieved to change prote cted areas from 'paper parks' to actively managed entities.- Key core areas benefit from better management and protection with management plans, demarcation, and delimitation, and participatory management.- Dema nd-driven activites in buffer zones (general and targeted) result in increased participation of local communities in management activities and more benign land use.- Biodiversity monitoring system in place to determine major changes in the status of biodiversity in the Corridor with local participation in monitoring activities and a flow of information on the biological status of resources.This project falls within the Biodiversity window of the GE F and the following Operational Programs: OP #2 (Coastal, Marine, and Freshwater Ecosystems), OP #3 (Forest E cosystems), and OP #4 (Mountain Ecosystems).
