Supplemental Third Water Supply and Sanitation
Development Objective
1. The objectives of the supplemental credit are to (i) improve sanitary conditions in Kaloum (one of the most densely populated districts of Conakry) by increasing access to sewerage services and eliminating pollution to the marine ecosystem by wastewater treatment; and (ii) enable the government to consolidate private sector participation in the management of the countrys urban water and sanitation facilities.2. Activities. Consistent with the original development objective, the supplemental credit would finance: (i) construction and supervision of a new sewerage network in the Kaloum district and installation of new connections to the system; (ii) construction of a wastewater treatment plant at the discharge end of the sewerage network; and (iii) support to the government in the recruitment of the private operator and in the management of the transition period.
