The Bolivian government has requested that supplemental financing be granted for the Bolivia Land Administration Project (CR-2742-BO) so that this project may more fully achieve its objectives to stengthen the legal and regulatory framework, to complete the conduct of titling activities in approximately 3 million hectares in rural areas, and to implement a sustainable national land registry. The supplemental financing will allow government to tailor and then extend participatory approaches to titling to address urgent demends from indigenous peoples in the very poor Andean region of western Bolivia, as well as complete tilting of smallholders in one section of eastern Bolivia. The proposal is for a Supplemental Credit of US$6 million equivalent, or 29% of the original size of this credit of US$20.4 million. With the approval of the supplemental financing there would also be a two and a half year extension of the closing date of the project from December 31, 2001, to June 30, 2004.
