Great Lakes Initiative on HIV/AIDS (GLIA) Support

Abstract*

Given the nature and extent of HIV/AIDS, and its high prevalence in the region, there is urgent need to contain its spread, therefore this multi-country focus of activities, is fully justified in this region's very fragile economies, and, grant financing is appropriate. The Program objectives and its subsequent phases will contribute to the reduction of HIV infections, and mitigate the socio-economic impact of the epidemic in the Great Lakes Region...

Development Objective

The development objectives of the project are to facilitate: establishment of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment, and mitigation programs for mobile and vulnerable groups such as refugees, transport sector workers, and highly affected/infected populations in each of the GLIA Member States, and enhancement of prospects for coordinated approaches addressing HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment and mitigation among the GLIA Member States.
