Abstract*

The Liuzhou Environment Management Project for China aims to improve the environmental conditions in Liuzhou through improved wastewater treatment, sanitation control, solid waste management, and industrial wastewater pollution control. The project has the following five components: Component 1) will help develop a comprehensive wastewater collection and treatment system in Liuzhou. Development Objective

To improve the environmental conditions in Liuzhou through improved wastewater treatment, sanitation control, solid waste management, and industrial wastewater pollution control. This objective will be achieved by implementing policy reforms and institutional development of public utilities, introducing regulatory reforms of industrial wastewater pollution control and undertaking priority investments in sewerage networks, wastewater treatment plants, public toilets, a solid waste transfer station and waste collection stations

    CommentCurrently only 40 public toilets (including 30 mobile public toilets) are completed. As the number and sites of proposed publictoilets to be constructed was lowered during the June 2009 mission, the number of people using the toilets to be constructed wasalso lowered. Also, with citizen's voice the location of public toilets were changed from the populated urban center andresidential areasto the off-residential and off-pedestrian areas (including parks and green land), which made the number of usersless than estimated amount.
