AIN-C resulted in a reduction of chronic malnutrition by11.5 percentage points (using the NCHS growth reference) for children exposed for two years. This result is the equivalent ofnearly twice the expected percentage point change in the PAD of the additional financing, a change of 6 percentage points (reducingchronic malnutrition from 32 to 26 percent).

Source: impact evaluation (Nov 2010 - Sept 2012). Note that this indicator was added in 2011 (withthe design of the additional financing). In the impact evaluation baseline was measured as 13.4% (not 11.64 as noted to the left)in Nov 2010. One reason for the lack of impact could be that mothers' knowledge of diarrhea risk factors and symptoms increasedduring this period, potentially leading to higher reporting. Furthermore, the increase in diarrhea may be due to factors beyondthe controlof AIN-C (e.g. contaminated water). This is corroborated by the fact that there was an increase in zinc consumption, which can prevent diarrhea, during this time, without an accompanying reduction in diarrhea.
