Development Objective

The main purpose of the LIL is to test whether participating youth (15-25) from poor rural and peri-urban families adopt positive economic and social practices in response to an integrated package of youth-oriented services and opportunities. The integrated package will entail creating synergies between three inter-related types of interventions in selected regions: a)economic approaches, creating enabling conditions for facilitating access of youth to skills and assets leading to better wage and self employment opportunities; b) support to local social initiatives for youth inclusion, scaling up a competitive grant process for youth-serving NGOs and community-based associations- focusing mainly on prevention of risky behaviors; and c) institutional and policy development, focusing on the development of a national youth strategy and a network of youth-serving public and private partners for better outreach and referral.
