CommentBasic water quality indicators (BOD, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, CN, Zn, Pb,Cr,Hg, PAH, PCB) at multiple sampling sites allbelowdetection or within Class 1A water quality parameters. Status of selected transboundary indicators (algal concentrations,PAH/PCBand heavy metals in fish tissues, etc.) not known.72 water samples were tested for physic-chemical parameters. The temperature ranged from 14.1-28.2 °C and pH values ranged from8.1to 8.5. The DO values ranged from 6.7 - 9.7 mg\l or 82.3 % - 111 %. The results of conductivity changed from 215-232 μS\m. Theaverage values of NH4-N ranged from 0.025-0.05 mg/L and the levels of NO3-N ranged from 0.18-0.27 mg/L. The average of fecal coliforms was from 101-102 cfu/100 ml in Buna, Zogaj, and Livadhet during June, July, September and October 2011. According to thedegree of total coli forms the water can be classified as good to moderate. The results show that the quality of the Shkodra lakewater is goodaccording to the European Community Standards.According to the physical-chemical analysis water quality of LakeShkodra can be classified as good. According to the microbiological parameters analyzed and EU-Directive for surface waters(Quality of Bathing Water76/160/EEC), Lake Shkodra results with slight pollution, fecal coli forms (100-2000 cfu/100ml) and totalcoli forms (100-500 cfu/100ml). In most cases G-values of the EU-directive on bathing waters for total coli forms and fecal coliforms were met. The cleanest point resulted was Middle lake and the most problematic point regarding both chemical andmicrobiological parameters was Buna, because of the discharging of sewages of the municipality. The monitoring indicators developed as part of the joint Lake Monitoring Program will continue to provide annually values for lakewater quality as agreed by stakeholders.
