Uganda: Kakira Bagasse Cogen (Carbon Offset)

Development Objective

KSW is planning to expand their crushing capacity and their co-generation system, which uses bagasse for fuel. The plan already has 4 MW co-generation system and surplus bagasse is disposed through open field burning. The project is to expand the project sponsors bagasse co-generation system from to 21 MW. 9 MW is for internal use and 12 MW will be supplied to the national grid during daytime (6:00-18:00) and peak hours (18:00-24:00). KSW already has an Energy Purchase Agreement with Uganda Electricity Transmission Company (UETCL). By this agreement, UETCL will purchase 6MW of electricity only during peak hours.
