Satellite laboratories awarded two star status under regional accreditation program based on WHO/AFRO five-step accreditation approa ch | Value | 0.00 | 26.00 | 20.00 |
Date | May 25, 2010 | March 31, 2014 | March 30, 2016 | |
Comment | This indicator is used to track improvements in laboratoryprocesses and performance. Independent team of laboratory assessors determined whether the laboratory met at least 65% (two stars)based on the established standards by the Regional WHO AFRO Step wise Laboratory Improvement Process Towards Accreditation (SLIPTA)program. The country assessment of 2009 showed out of all supported laboratories, none of them had reached a two star status. In anassessment done in November 2013 in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi) 25 laboratories out of 32 or 77% of all theassessed laboratories, scored two stars and above and one laboratory in Uganda, the National TB reference laboratory attainedISO15189 accreditation. | KENYA: 6RWANDA: 6TANZANIA: 5UGANDA: 6BURUNDI: 3 | KENYA: 4RWANDA: 4TANZANIA: 5UGANDA: 4BURUNDI: 3 |
People receiving TB drug susceptibility tests among DOTS treated TB cases not responding to treatment | Value | 8056.00 | 9772.00 | 13380.00 |

Comment | This indicator assesses two issues, surveillance for Drug-Resistant TB at national level and uptake of Drug Susceptibility Testing(DST) services at project sites. The regional target was to have 11,400 patients receiving DST by 2013 and 12,460 by 2014. Comparedto the baseline assessment done in 2009, the reports for 2011/12 and 2012/13 show that there has been increased number of DR-TBSuspects accessing DST services with the targets partly achieved. | KENYA: 8568RWANDA: 198 TANZANIA: 170UGANDA: 812BURUNDI: 24 |

Comment | This indicator reflects the cross-border response to control communicable disease outbreaks in the border districts wheresatellitelaboratories are located. Compared to the baseline of 2009, the 2011/12 and 2012/13 reports showed that there has been anincreasednumber of cross border disease outbreak investigations in participating countries as shown in figure 6 below. But for the2013-2014only one cross border investigation was done between Tanzania and Burundi to address the cholera outbreak. No otheroutbreaks werereported during this period that would have necessitated a joint response. | KENYA: 0RWANDA: 0TANZANIA: 1UGANDA: 0BURUNDI: 1 |

Comment | This is a core indicator, and is used to track the number of people getting laboratory services at the facilities supported by theProject. The Regional target for year 2 was 156, 690 and for year 3 was 163, 190. The reports show that there has been an overallincrease in the number of beneficiaries at the sites, with countries surpassing their targets. The targets are currently underreview and may need adjustment. | KENYA: 140,475RWANDA: 36,280TANZANIA: 71,145UGANDA: 225,565BURUNDI: NA |

Comment | This indicator measures the role of laboratory-based surveillance of outbreaks of communicable diseases of public healthimportance, such as cholera, malaria, hepatitis, salmonella, typhoid, and hemorrhagic fever. The regional target was to haveetiological agents confirmed in 40% of outbreaks. Comment | This indicator is used to track the efficiency of TB diagnostic services (liquid culture) to facilitate timely patient management. Each country had set its own target with regard to turn around time. The most recent reports indicate that there has beenexcellentprogress in reducing turnaround time (TAT) for TB liquid culture test at most participating laboratories supported underthe projectin all countries with patients receiving results in a more timely fashion. | KENYA: 56 daysRWANDA: 35 daysTANZANIA: naUGANDA: 42 days | KENYA: 15 daysRWANDA: 21 daysTANZANIA: 21 daysUGANDA: 35 days |
