Benin is a lower-middle income country with significant economic growth but persistent poverty levels. Bordered by Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger, Benin has a 121-kilometer-long coastline on the Gulf of Guinea and a population of close to 11.5 million (2018) spread over 114,760 km2 of land.
