The 2024 World Bank Impact Report is focused on IBRD Sustainable Development Bonds and Green Bonds, and the IBRD-financed projects supported by these bonds in fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The report illustrates how bond proceeds support the financing of projects and programs in IBRD member countries in line with the World Bank Group mission to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.
The World Bank has been publishing an impact report for Green Bonds since 2015 and in 2020 published its first impact report for Sustainable Development Bonds, effectively covering all bond issuance. The World Bank uses the Handbook: Harmonised Framework for Impact Reporting coordinated by International Capital Market Association (ICMA). The Handbook builds off the first impact reporting guidance and templates initiated by the World Bank and other multilateral development banks which was published in March 2015.
Results: The FY24 Impact Report features a set of results indicators released in October 2024 as part of the new outcomes-focused World Bank Group Scorecard. Scorecard indicators report on the stock of results expected over the lifetime of the projects alongside the stock of results achieved so far by projects in the active portfolio as of June 30, 2024, the first cycle of reporting.
Spotlight on Outcomes: These brief narratives illustrate the broader development context in which the World Bank Group operates, outlining the associated challenges facing developing countries and how we are helping, providing relevant results indicators and project examples for IBRD-eligible countries.
Bond Issuance: In FY24, IBRD issued $51.1 billion in Sustainable Development Bonds and $1.3 billion in Green Bonds, totaling $52.4 billion in issuance. This included a new outcome bond, the Plastic Waste Reduction-Linked Bond, and new catastrophe bonds for the governments of Jamaica and Mexico.
Project-Level Results: Due to the size and depth of the dataset, project-level reporting is exclusively available on this website. Investors can download the data in PDF format or request the data in Excel format by clicking on the Project-Level Reporting section of this page.
External Review: For a third year, IBRD has obtained limited assurance from an independent third party on the commitments and disbursements of IBRD-financed loans made possible by bond issuance.
